Let us preface this article by saying that Spurs are a very, very good side. They were unlucky not to win the title last season, have one of the most exciting squads in the league, and are being managed by one of Europe’s best up and coming bosses.
And yet, they’re floundering.
After dropping yet more points to Leicester this weekend they’ve now slipped outside the top four. Perhaps more worrying for Spurs fans is that they are winless in five in all competitions.
It’s not going to get easier; they have a tough game against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday, then play Arsenal in the North London derby next weekend.
And it’s that European / Premier League alternation that makes Gary Neville think we will finish ahead of them come May.
“Liverpool are the same [as Chelsea], they have players who give huge energetic performances. Their recovery between games is important.
“It will be an advantage. I think Tottenham are as good as Liverpool, I think Tottenham are as good as Chelsea, there’s no doubt, but because Spurs are in European competition I would put Chelsea and Liverpool ahead of them in the Premier League for that reason.” (SkySports)
