Why Liverpool fans should support Arsenal, not Sutton United, this evening

Before doing our research, we’d have been plumping for Sutton United against Premier League giants Arsenal this evening.

The non-league side have done brilliantly to get to the 5th Round, and most around the country will be vehemently backing them to put another nail in Arsene Wenger’s managerial coffin tonight.

However, Sutton have announced that their regular shirt sponsor ‘Green Go Waste’ is being replaced by S*n Bets for one game only.

We have no problem with them looking to maximise profit from their run, but they’ve actively chosen to wear the S*n brand, when there were surely plenty of other suitors.

What’s even sadder is that many Sutton fans are outraged by the decision, too.

One fan, wishing to remain anonymous, told the Guardian: “For many of us, this goes against our whole ethos of being a community club.

“Many of us have gone on record as expressing our serious concern at the choice of sponsor, especially in light of the fact that post-Hillsborough, we regard them as a toxic brand that no football club, especially not a non-league football club which is justifiably proud of its independence, should do business with.”

“We would have much rather they had come to their own community for an extra injection of cash rather than go with The S*n, which many of us see as absolutely toxic.”

We feel mighty sorry for the Sutton fans who feel this way, and can’t imagine who at the club would have made such a decision…

A few weeks back, Liverpool announced that journalists from the S*n would be permanently banned from club premises, such as at press-conferences and matches.
