Roberto Firmino has opened up on what it is like to be a part of Liverpool’s feared attacking quartet.
Tuesday’s 1-1 Champions League group stage draw against Spartak Moscow saw Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Firmino himself play together for the first time.
The delay in combining the four came as a result of Coutinho’s back injury seeing him miss the first few weeks and Mane’s recent suspension ruling him out for three games.
Firmino has praised his teammates for their contributions and turned a special focus towards the deeper role his Brazilian compatriot may occupy.
“It’s excellent, to play with these three,” said the Brazilian. “It’s very important for me and for everyone,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.
“It’s very good for the entire team, but I like playing with the three of them. They’re really nice lads, good people, and I hope that we can help Liverpool to the absolute maximum to play well.”
On Coutinho’s position: “He firstly has to feel good, it’s about what he’s feeling so he can get the most out of the game, but the position he is picked in he has to make the best out of.”
“With Sadio and Mo, they’re giving us quite a lot of chances on goal. They’re very quick and we’re enjoying playing with the two with the speed they give us. They’re giving us a lot of chances to create goals, which is really important for the team.”
It remains to be seen whether the four will start Sunday’s game away to Newcastle, with Daniel Sturridge emerging as a possible starter as Jurgen Klopp seeks to restore his side’s goal-scoring touch.
Whilst creating opportunities hasn’t been an issue of late, failing to convert them certainly has- something Firmino has been guilty of in recent games.
The No.9 struggled in Moscow during the week but has since been handed the backing of his manager, who recently insisted he was happy with his attacking options having not signed a big-money striker during the transfer window.
Liverpool’s frightening quartet will do some damage, without question. It’s just a matter of time before they click as one unit.
