Because in Liverpool’s last 15 Premier League matches, stretching to the back end of last term, we’ve kept clean-sheets in over half the games – more than Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham!
Daniel Storey shared the stat on Twitter yesterday and naturally, it went viral:

Liverpool – 8
Man City – 8

Now, anyone who’s watched Liverpool this term will tell you unequivocally that we have a defensive issue.
While we’ve kept the same number of clean-sheets as City in the past 15, this term we’ve let in 16 compared to their six. The 16 we’ve conceded is more than any of the top six, in fact – largely racked up in 5-0 and 4-1 thrashings by City and Spurs respectively.
Of course, the only stat that really matters is points on the board and we have 16 from ten games. Despite a rocky start to the campaign, we’re three points off fourth placed Chelsea and four off Spurs ahead of them.
That is by no means insurmountable, considering we have Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana to return.
After the international break, we can see Liverpool going on a strong run up until Christmas.
We certainly need to, anyway!
