Liverpool’s 23-Man Champions League Squad includes major surprise

Jurgen Klopp has named his Champions League squad for Tuesday’s crunch clash with Sevilla, knowing a victory will see us progress through to the knockout stages.

The boss has left Joel Matip behind, with the Cameroonian central defender still struggling with an abductor problem.

This means Dejan Lovren will likely continue alongside Ragnar Klavan, whose conceded just one goal in four matches since he came in, at centre-back.

But perhaps most surprising is that Danny Ings has been finally given the nod.

The English forward hasn’t made a Match Day squad this term and has been confined to the U23s, but a recent four-goal salvo in the 7-0 thrashing of Bristol City has obviously encouraged Klopp to get him involved.

Not that this guarantees he’ll make the bench, of course. In fact, we imagine he likely won’t- with Danny Ward and Marko Grujic likely to also miss out what’s going to be a very impressive 18.

This does mean though that Adam Lallana is likely to be named as a sub and could make his first appearance of the campaign.
