James Milner is spot on with Champions League final comments

James Milner says Liverpool deserve a trophy this season for the effort and quality that the players and fans have shown.

Having collected 97 Premier League points – enough to win the title in every season ever apart from last season and this – the Reds’ league campaign ended with a second place finish.

The Champions League has taken a back seat until the last couple of weeks this year, with the league the main priority, but now everyone’s full attention will turn to bringing home number six in Madrid.

Via the Evening Standard, Milner said: “When you think of 30 wins out of 38, at the start of the season you’d like to think that’s good enough. We have to be proud of what we’ve achieved.

“Unfortunately it’s just short, but obviously what we did earlier in the week [versus Barcelona] gives us a chance to go and redeem ourselves and get a piece of silverware because I think everyone deserves a bit of silverware.

“The fans have been unbelievable. Like I say, the boys deserve a bit of silverware, but the fans do too.”

Milner’s comments make complete sense – and while nothing is won yet, the Reds have every reason to be confident heading into the game having beaten Spurs twice this season already.

To end the season with another Champions League trophy in the cabinet would be a great finish to a wonderful campaign – and as Milner says, no one could argue over whether it would be deserved.
