Tottenham midfielder makes strange claim about the Champions League final

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks says he believes Spurs should have won on Saturday night – saying his side were unfortunate not to pick up the trophy.

Spurs had almost two-thirds of the ball on the night, but Alisson was rarely tested. Christian Eriksen’s free-kick was well tipped wide by the Brazilian, while Lucas Moura should have done better from a good position, but other than that, Spurs created little.

The Reds were clinical and even though it was a poor game for the neutral to watch, deserved the win at the Wanda Metropolitano – most pundits, apart from perhaps Glenn Hoddle, would accept that.

Winks, though, disagrees. He told Tottenham’s official website: “I believe we should have won but I’m so proud of everyone. It’s been an incredible run for us.

“We gave it a real go, created chances and on another day, we win. It’s an unfortunate one.”

As strange as Winks’ comments are, the only important thing is that the Reds were the ones who got the victory. The quality of the game will not be remembered – only the result will, and that went Liverpool’s way.
