Ex-Spurs man claims Reds may swoop for classy Tottenham star

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has suggested that Liverpool should move for Christian Eriksen this summer – saying he believes there is a chance a deal could be done.

With only 12 months left on his contract, Eriksen could well be on the move in the coming weeks, and it has been clear during the ex-Ajax man’s time in the Premier League that he is a top-class player.

Via TalkSport, O’Hara said: “[Liverpool] need a central midfielder player.

“I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that they might try and take Eriksen from Tottenham as he’s in the last year on his deal. He’s the type of player they need.”

With Eriksen having already admitted he wants a new challenge this summer, and with Real Madrid, another of the sides interested in the Dane, having already spent big on other priorities, the Reds could get him if they wanted to.

It would be a big statement to take a player of that quality from a rival, but at 27, he’s not really the profile the Reds typically go for. As European champions, however, there is an argument that the approach should evolve.

Given he’s currently at Spurs, his wage demands would presumably fit in with the club’s model even with a significant pay rise, so that would work, but Daniel Levy would demand a huge fee as he always does, which could be a stumbling block.

It might not be the most likely of signings this summer – but we certainly wouldn’t be against it.
