Robertson deactivates Twitter account after bizarre criticism

Andrew Robertson has taken drastic action after a section of so-called fans angrily pointed the finger at him for our defeat against Napoli.

Jose Callejon went down under Robertson’s challenge late on to win a penalty which broke the deadlock.

But replays showed that Callejon had effectively thrown himself to the ground in opportunistic fashion.

Even though, to put it bluntly, Callejon dived and VAR failed to do its job, Robertson still came in for criticism for a challenge Mark Lawrenson dubbed ‘lazy’.

And it seems, in typical Twitter fashion, that the criticism was delivered in such a way that Robertson felt compelled to close his account.

This comes after he had admitted the stick he got while recently representing Scotland, who lost two important Euro 2020 qualifiers, was difficult.

We can’t begrudge him, or indeed any player, a break from social media.

Some Liverpool ‘supporters’ still don’t seem to have gotten their head around the fact that he’s the best left-back in Europe.

As recently as last Saturday against Newcastle, he was excellent.
