Daniel Sturridge has injured hamstring – set to miss festive period

The grass is green. Water is wet. Daniel Sturridge is injured.

It’s groundhog day again, Reds. Liverpool’s perpetually injured striker Daniel Sturridge is injured again, so says the internet – although we can hold on to a thread of hope that it might all be an elaborate windup…

Paul Joyce from the Express confirmed the news after the internet went crazy over the rumour that the Englishman injured his hamstring v Newcastle. Multiple large Liverpool accounts were tweeting the news like it was fact, and a contact we have through the club didn’t deny it either. Now, Joyce’s article sadly makes it clear the rumours were true.

BBC broadcaster Matt Smith was one of many to tweet the news this afternoon. In fairness, a clean bill of health for the 26-year-old would be more surprising.

Joseph Musker, who writes for DiMarzio also reported the situation, as did @Jay_78_ who regularly appears on The RedMen TV.

Sturridge apparently twinged the muscle during his cameo appearance off the bench during Liverpool’s terrible loss to the Toon on Sunday – but this news will confound the defeat tenfold.

The crocked forward had just made his first start under Klopp – scoring two goals in the League Cup thrashing of Southampton.

Following the weekend result and this latest news, the positivity from the 6-1 St, Mary’s drubbing has mostly vanished.
