Mamadou Sakho injured: Frenchman out of League Cup tie tonight

In pretty awful news for Liverpool, Mamadou Sakho is injured which means Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren are starting tonight’s League Cup semi-final as our only two senior centre-backs.

Liverpool’s official Twitter account announced the starting XI, while James Pearce of the Echo confirmed to us that Sakho is indeed out of the side with an injury – although no further news has been published.

The 25-year-old has not been long returned from his debilitating knee problem long which kept him out during November and December, but he now could face another spell on the sidelines.

With Martin Skrtel currently out with a hamstring injury, Jurgen Klopp may need to enter the transfer market for a new centre-half this January.

Kolo Toure cannot be considered a regular Premier League option anymore and if Tiago Ilori cannot get a single minute at Aston Villa he shouldn’t be in contention for us either.

Klopp’s injury nightmare goes on and on. We’ve now got eight players who could consider themselves first-teamers unavailable, with Sturridge, Origi, Skrtel, Sakho, Rossiter, Gomez, Ings, Henderson and Flanagan all out of action.
