Back in November, barely a month after taking over as Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp took a surprise dig at Daniel Sturridge.

“We have to accept the situation, Daniel has often been injured in the last few months, maybe year,” said Klopp at the time (via Telegraph).

“I understand why everyone is waiting. If it wasn’t someone with the quality of Daniel no-one would think about it. You have to learn what is serious pain or only pain – but of course everyone wants him back on the pitch.”

Now Daniel Sturridge has had his own say on those comments – and needless to say, wasn’t too thrilled:

“I didn’t see where Klopp was coming from”, said the striker. “But, you know, that’s his opinion and that’s football. I’ve played with many injuries over the years, and I will continue to do that for the team.” (via Talksport)

Of course, since returning permanently in early 2016, Sturridge has been in fine form. His goal against Villarreal was his fifth in his last eight matches, taking his tally to 12 in all competitions.
