Lazar Markovic unimpressed by UEFA’s ludicrous four game ban

Despite the red card the Serbian received against FC Basel in the Champions League appearing incredibly harsh – his hand merely skimming the face of Iranian midfielder Behrang Safari – we have decided to accept our punishment. As a result, Markovic will not feature in either the two legged last 32 clash against Besiktas nor any prospective last 16 matches.

Liverpool clearly decided that an appeal would not be worth it – particularly if there is a possibility of further action against player or club for what could be deemed a frivolous defence.

Unfortunately for us, it would appear that UEFA have decided to send a message out to Markovic, with the four match ban reportedly sanctioned with reference to his sending off from the bench in last season’s Europa League final for Benfica.

Fortunately, the team has been in fine form recently, with the summer signings starting to adapt well to our playing style.

With Brendan Rodgers extolling the virtues of his best squad of his Anfield reign, we ought to be able to cope without Lazar Markovic for a few European games.

Jordon Ibe has come on a great deal in recent weeks, and this may be a chance to further accelerate his development.
