Experienced head at the back set for Italian adventure…

Glen Johnson is reportedly set to agree a deal with Serie A side AS Roma in the next 48 hours and will move to Italy at the end of this season when his Liverpool contract expires.

Tuttomercatoweb say Johnson’s representatives will meet with the Italian club this Thursday to finalise an agreement.

Johnson recently admitted that he was in talks with other clubs and made it abundantly clear that he was interested in a move abroad after rejecting a short term extension offer from the club late in 2014.

If he does leave it would bring an almost six year Liverpool career to and end, having joined the club in 2009 in a multimillion deal from Portsmouth – replacing Alvaro Arbeloa who moved to Real Madrid.

It’s unclear just how the loss of Johnson could affect us given he is an experienced head at the back and it isn’t abundantly clear who would be a permanent replacement.

If Johnson does leave, we’d surely enter the summer market for another right-back, although Jon Flanagan is closing in on a long-awaited return from injury.
