Steven Gerrard transfer: Inter Milan tempting Reds skipper…

New Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini has set his sights on an ambitious January transfer move for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, and believes he can lure him to the San Siro.

The former Manchester City boss was unveiled as Inter manager for the second time on Saturday, and immediately laid out an ambitious set of transfer plans to revive the Italian giants.

Gerrard, who is yet to sign a contract extension at Anfield and is free to talk to other clubs from the start of the new year, also has a number of options to move to the United States next summer, with New York Cosmos one potential avenue.

But the Daily Mail believes that a move to Serie A could be very appealing for Gerrard, who will welcome the opportunity to continue playing at a high level for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Another experienced Englishman in the twilight years of his career, Ashley Cole, made a similar move last summer when he joined Roma, while Gerrard’s Liverpool teammate – Glen Johnson – has also attracted interest from Italy.

Inter are currently ninth in their league table, with just four wins from their first 11 games so far this season. However, they do top their group in the Europa League, and will be well aware that the competition’s winners receive a free pass into next season’s Champions League.
