Liverpool’s 9 highest goalscoring defenders in history, with Riise & Hyypia

3) Emlyn Hughes – 49 goals

The much loved former captain lifted our first European Cup in 1977, and will be forever remembered as an icon and a club great. ‘Crazy Horse’ was equally comfortable in defence or midfield.

2) Phil Neal – 59 goals

Neal remains the most decorated footballer in Liverpool’s history. He picked up 22 pieces of silverware during a ludicrously productive career. Neal loved bombarding up the flank from fullback and entering the box – where he could finish like a striker.

1) Chris Lawler – 61 goals

Lawler didn’t take free-kicks or penalties, but still notched 61 goals for Liverpool in a 549 match long stint. The right-back worked tirelessly up the right flank, but despite his goals, was a tough, uncompromising defender too. He is Liverpool’s highest goalscoring defender, and will likely remain so for the considerable future, too.
