Sardar Azmoun targeted by Reds…

Reports in Russia, mentioned here in the Express, suggest that we’re winning the race with Tottenham and Arsenal the services of Rubin Jazan prodigy Sardar Azmoun…

Azmoun’s been dubbed (spuriously) ‘The Iranian Messi,’ and is available for around £5m due to the financial plight of nearly every Russian club.

Rubin CEO Ayrat Garayev told Izvestia: “Sardar Azmoun is a Rubin player and has a valid contract with our club.

“We are waiting for his return from the Asian Cup and looking forward to having him for the remainder of the season.

“We have had approaches for Sardar, but I see no reason to discuss them until they become official.”

Azmoun is only 20-years-old, and although talented, he’s still very raw. His defensive contribution is next to zero, he regularly gets caught offside, and his finishing is inconsistent. He likes to dribble and play lay-offs, and his technical skills are actually very strong – but it’s unlikely he’d be able to have an impact in the Premier League just yet.

This term in Russia, he’s been given just the four starts, and played mainly from the bench.

We wouldn’t get too excited about this transfer rumour, and would advise taking it with a pinch of salt, anyway.
