Tony Barrett identifies surprise potential January transfer target

Sardar Azmoun, FC Rostov

It wouldn’t be a classic Jurgen Klopp build up to a transfer window without at least one obscure name being thrown into the mix.

We love it, though. Fans of other clubs may mock us for targeting the unproven and the unknown, but we know what Klopp is capable of when it comes to finding talent and developing it into something special.

Football writer Tony Barrett has taken to Twitter to highlight one man who could become an option in January.

The loss of Danny Ings to injury for the rest of the season and Sadio Mane’s departure for the African Cup of Nations in January, has sparked minor concerns over how Klopp will adjust his plans.

Bringing in a player or two in the January window poses as the most likely option at the moment, and FC Rostov’s Azmoun is the latest man to be linked to us.

The 21-year-old was key in helping his side through the Champions League qualifying rounds with goals against Anderlecht and Ajax.

He has also scored 15 goals in 20 games for Iran and has already been heavily linked to a move to the Premier League.

Azmoun is undoubtedly the first of many names to become a Liverpool target, with Klopp clearly keen on bringing in new faces and, in turn, getting his business done quickly
