Indeed, the numbers suggest that we’ve actually been better without our iconic skipper that we have been with him in the team! Gerrard has been a magnificent servant to us, and we’d hate to wish away his final months – he still has an integral part to play prior to his move to LA Galaxy – but we do at least have reason for optimism.

We once feared that we’d be lost without the brilliant and charismatic midfielder, with nothing but dread surrounding his inevitable departure. But now, as that prospect edges closer to being a reality, we are looking at a bright future under Jordan Henderson and co.

This was the conclusion drawn by talkSport after they themselves had crunched the numbers, and while we could have done without all the block capitals, we agree that they make a valid point:

  • Owing to injury, Gerrard has been in and out of the first-team for the past six weeks, during which time Liverpool have won FIVE from FIVE when he hasn’t been in the squad.
  • In the Premier League alone, Liverpool have WON ALL SIX matches where Gerrard hasn’t featured, conceding just TWO GOALS and scoring a pretty impressive 14.
  • In ALL COMPETITIONS, the Redmen have played 12 WITHOUT GERRARD, WINNING TEN, drawing one and losing JUST ONCE – the agonising Europa League exit at the hands of Besiktas.
