Lazar Markovic has today been linked with a move back to Benfica. The rumour – reported here by talkSPORT – has been met with derision from the Liverpool fans, anxious to see the Serbian winger given a fair chance at Anfield.

The 21-year-old only started 11 Premier League games for us last season and hasn’t completed 90 minutes for us since January. Towards the end of the season, he was regularly withdrawn early on in matches, including four times at the half-time interval.
However, there were flashes of quality, including goals against Sunderland and Tottenham which suggested that he could rediscover the form that saw him help Benfica win a domestic treble and reach the final of the Europa League.
It was his form during his single season at Benfica that inspired his £20m move to Liverpool last summer. Many of our fans have voiced their frustrations with his performances during the campaign, although they seemingly remain keen for him to stay put during the break.
