After a stupendously impressive pre-season, Joe Gomez seems to have ousted Alberto Moreno from the side.
According to Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph, Brendan Rodgers think the 18-year-old has done enough to start ahead of the Spanish international versus Stoke next weekend, as Liverpool travel to the Britannia for their Premier League opener.
While Moreno, who arrived from Sevilla for £12m last summer, has toiled during the summer friendlies, Gomez has been faultless.
Arriving from Charlton for £3.5m (both fees mentioned in the Telegraph report), Gomez has wowed Liverpool fans with a series of mature, physically robust performances on the left of defence.

What’s even more remarkable is that Gomez is naturally a centre-back and played right-back for Charlton last year, but has now earned the chance to make the left-back spot his own.
This news will come as no surprise to Liverpool fans who’ve witnessed Rodgers’ tendency to test young talent during his three year tenure here.
Gomez played Liverpool’s Saturday friendly versus HJK which featured many automatic starters, while Moreno played against Swindon the following day in a second string side which included Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.
