Premier League side set to make last-gasp bid to sign Lazar Markovic

Watford have expressed an interest in taking Liverpool star Lazar Markovic on loan this season and could rival Turkish giants Fenerbahce with a late move for the Serbian midfielder.

According to reports on talkSPORT, the newly promoted side are hoping to convince the 21-year-old to stay and continue his development in England, after failing to secure a regular spot in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Markovic, who started just 11 Premier League games last season after his big money move from Benfica, will meet with representatives from Fenerbahce over the weekend before deciding on his next move – as talkSPORT state.

Their report comes despite BBC Sport claiming that the deal to take Markovic to Turkey was as good as done. They told us on Friday that a deal was close and confirmed that we would be receiving a loan fee.

The BBC also state that Markovic will be returning to Anfield next season and confirm that this move is simply in the interest of aiding his development. They say that it’s not, as some of us fear, a move to try and force him out of the club ahead of a permanent move next year.

Brendan Rodgers still has high hopes for the young player and believes that he can fulfil his vast potential.
