Joao Teixeira set to stay and fight for first-team opportunities

While a large number of younger players have left Liverpool on loan this summer, Joao Carlos Teixeira is expected to stay at Anfield.

The Echo reckon that while Tiago Ilori is weighing up a temporary move to Aston Villa, there is no news on his Portuguese counterpart – meaning he’ll stay and fight for first-team opportunities – which could possibly come in the Europa League or League Cup.

We have fixtures against Bordeaux and Carlisle in September, and the 22-year-old playmaker will love to get an opportunity to build on the impressive performances he displayed in pre-season, where he did well when selected during the tour of the Far East.

Teixeira shone on loan at Brighton last season, but with the likes of Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Jordon Ibe and Roberto Firmino ahead of him in the attacking midfield pecking order, his chances will be likely limited.

But with Lazar Markovic spending the season with Fenerbahce and Lallana injured, an opportunity may arise.

The 22-year-old prides himself on his technical ability and vision, and has the talent to establish himself as a Premier League player – if we can afford to give him the minutes he’ll need to develop.
