Jurgen Klopp discusses Liverpool captaincy

Jordan Henderson will continue as Liverpool captain on his return from injury, Jurgen Klopp has told the Echo.

The club captain hasn’t played under the new manager yet due to injury, but is hoping to return after the international break. Henderson’s last game was the Premier League win over Bournemouth – limping off after 52 minutes.

James Milner has worn the armband in his absence, but our German manager has claimed that Henderson will continue the captaincy when he’s fit enough to take the field.

“There was no second of doubt about this decision,” said Klopp. “I didn’t ask because it was logical for me, we never had to think about whether Henderson was the right captain.

“I’ve met him, he’s an absolute leader and he’s in a good way at this moment, and we all hope he’s back in a few weeks.

“I do not know what will happen in the next two weeks, it’s very important and we’re waiting for this. Hendo stays captain.”

Brendan Rodgers originally made Henderson the skipper, but it’s good to see Klopp is on the same page.

The 25-year-old has been badly missed in central midfield, and will likely enter the side alongside Lucas in the middle of the park on his return to fitness.

The Englishman is perfectly suited to Klopp’s style, and prides himself on his unbelievable off the ball work, and his continually developing creativity.
