We mentioned this during our player ratings piece last night, but versus Stoke, Joe Allen trended on Twitter for the right reasons for the first time in as long as we can remember.
He was composed in possession, strong in the tackle, clever in the pass – and overall – put in a performance worthy of a Liverpool or a Jurgen Klopp midfielder.
The 25-year-old drew specific praise for his ‘no-look’ assist, but it was contribution for the 80 minutes he was on the field that deserves the most praise.
Many Reds wouldn’t have batted an eyelid if we’d sold Allen this January, but his outing at the Britannia shows the talent is clearly there. Hopefully he can continue the improvement, as with the current injury list, we actually need him.
