Hot prospect Toni Gomes smashes in a hat-trick as U18s win 5-0

17-year-old Toni Gomes was the star of the show as our U18s thrashed Sunderland U18s 5-0 in the final regular-season game of the campaign (via Echo).

The Guinea-Bissau native has been turning heads at Kirkby all year, but this was without question his best performance to date.

We took the lead inside five minutes through Ovie Ejaria when he volleyed home a Kane Lewis cross, but Sunderland rallied and had several chances themselves.

Gomes got his first of the game on the half-hour mark to give us some breathing space, and Sunderland quickly collapsed. The same player got his second in the 44th minute as Ejaria once again provided the assist, then Ben Woodburn scored moments later to make it 4-0 at half time.

Gomes completed his hat-trick one minute into the second half when he drilled past Cameron McCulloch from a tight angle.

The eight-team post-season will get underway this weekend, with ourselves, Everton, Man City, Blackburn, Chelsea, West Ham, Fulham, and Reading taking part.
