We’ve recently been linked with Lyon’s 17-year-old midfielder Houssem Aouar, and have now apparently made an enquiry regarding the Frenchman’s availability, according to FootMercato.
The youngster turns 18 soon and will be eligible to sign his first professional contract. We’re apparently hoping that will be with us, although Lyon are doing their best to convince him his future remains with them.
Club chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is determined to keep the teenager at the club, but a switch to the Premier League and the chance to work under Jurgen Klopp may well appeal to him.
As the report suggests, we’re unfortunately facing more competition for the player than just Lyon. Arsenal have apparently made serious moves to try and sign the promising young star too, and they may well be further into the transfer process than we are.

While we shouldn’t turn our noses up at the chance to sign a talented young player, he certainly shouldn’t be a priority. There are plenty of other areas we should be focusing on before we look to sign a player like Aouar, as we need players who can come in and make an immediate impact.
