According to the Echo, our board have been “blown away” with the progress made and are keen to get Klopp to commit his long-term future to Liverpool.

Klopp’s current contract runs until the summer of 2018 with the option of a further 12 months – but FSG’s president Mike Gordon has now opened talks over extending that deal.

The Echo reports that Klopp’s assistant coaches Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz will also be given new contracts.

Apparently, FSG owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner view Klopp as a “world class operator” and someone in whom they have complete faith to bring success to Anfield.

They decided to make their move now to avoid specualtion over Klopp’s future during the season. The German is expected to put pen to paper in the coming weeks.
