Poor Joe Gomez.
It really must be incredibly difficult for him to take; the player, the manager, and the fans were all excited about finally seeing him return to first-team action this summer, only for the possibility to be cruelly ripped away by a fresh setback.
Gomez, as you will no doubt recall, missing almost the entirety of last season after damaging his knee ligaments on England duty, but yesterday it was confirmed that he will now miss another chunk of time after an unrelated achilles injury.

He seems to be staying upbeat though, which is hugely commendable.
In a recent Instagram post, he said the following:

We love the quote — “Perseverance is stubbornness with a purpose” — how uplifting is that?!
We’re more concerned about the timeframe for his return. We’re no experts, but “Rehab is rarely a smooth path” sounds worrying.
Will he ever get back to being the player he showed glimpses of becoming? Time will tell…
