Our hopes of luring Georginio Wijnaldum to Anfield seem to be no further along tonight after the Newcastle Chronicle reported the two clubs have not agreed on a fee.
They claim Newcastle and Rafa will not allow either Wijnaldum or their other wantaway star Moussa Sissoko to leave “on the cheap”.
They have slapped a £27 million fee on Wijnaldum’s head, though reports elsewhere in the media appear to suggest that the figure could be lower if a Liverpool player moves in the other direction.
The article even suggests Liverpool have already decided upon Wijnaldum’s squad number – but that’s all somewhat immaterial at this stage.
