Arsenal’s probable XI v Liverpool named in report; still very strong despite injuries

Arsenal are enduring something of a central defensive crisis right now, but apart from these two positions, they still look very strong for the Premier League opener against us at the weekend.

The Express have named their likely lineup for the Emirates on Sunday, which is without injured defenders Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel.

French striker Olivier Giroud and Germany superstar Mesut Ozil are also unavailable, but the replacements are good players we’ll have to be at our very best to beat.

In goal, Petr Cech will start, with two of the best fullbacks in the country, Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal, on the defensive flanks.

In place of the injured centre-backs, the Express thinks Calum Chambers and Rob Holding will play.

In midfield, they suggest new signing Granit Xhaka will line up next to Mohamed El Neny in a physical double pivot, with Theo Walcott on the right, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the left and Aaron Ramsey at no.10 – with Alexis Sanchez up top.

So even with Arsenal’s supposed crisis, they’re very strong and Liverpool will need to be at our very, very best to emerge with points.

Arsenal likely XI: Cech; Bellerin, Monreal, Holding, Chambers; El Neny, Xhaka; Walcott, Ramsey, Chamberlain; Sanchez
