Phil Thompson picks strange combined Liverpool/Tottenham XI without Dele Alli, but with odd formation

Liverpool’s legendary former skipper Phil Thompson has named his combined Liverpool and Tottenham XI for the Daily Star, with the two teams facing each other at lunchtime tomorrow at White Hart Lane.

We can’t argue with Thompson’s chosen defence, which is very Spurs heavy – totally understandable when you consider Liverpool have already conceded five Premier League goals this term.

We do however have a little doubt about his tactic, which features four attacking midfielders behind Harry Kane, with poor Eric Dier sitting behind them and doing the job of three midfielders on his own!

Thommo has picked all four of our star attacking midfielders, Mane, Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana, in front of Dier – with Harry Kane leading the line.

There’s an argument for Daniel Sturridge we guess, but you can’t argue with the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner last term up top.

What Thommo’s side does of course represent is how poor we are at the back, but how exciting we are going forward…

All set for a 0-0 in North London tomorrow then!

Here’s Thompson’s combined side, but what’s yours?
