Klopp tries to quell the hype – admits he’s not the “best manager in the world”

It’s fair to say that ever since a group of Reddit users tracked Jurgen Klopp’s plane from Germany to Liverpool last October, we’ve been all aboard the hype train.

It’s not without reason, two cup finals in his first half-season in charge and being the Premier League’s highest goalscorers after Christmas has got us all believing we’ve bagged ourselves one of the leading managers in the world game.

Klopp himself, however, has tried to lower expectations a touch in an interview with the Daily Mail.

In it, he was adamant he wasn’t the best manager in the world, but did admit that he was “quite good”.

“Without being the most confident person in the world, I think I am the right person for Liverpool,” he said.

“I can’t score goals and I can’t make saves. I am not saying I am the best manager in the world, either. But I’m quite good and I am one of those managers who is really interested in structure.”

Personally, we think he’s underselling himself. He’s won two Bundesliga titles, three various German cup titles, took Mainz to the German top flight, been a Champions League runner-up, been a Europa League runner-up, and a League Cup runner-up.

Oh, and did we mention he’s also been named German ‘Manager of the Year’ twice (via Wikipedia).

Of course you’re the best, Jurgen!
