Klopp vows that League Cup remains high on his list of priorities

The League Cup’s reputation could scarcely be lowly – especially for the top sides.

Yes, it’s always nice to win a trophy. Yes, lifting the League Cup can lead to greater things (our League Cup title in 2001 arguably laid the foundation for the next decade of success). And yes, winning football matches is what football – and especially Liverpool Football Club – is all about.

But we don’t look back on League Cup wins with the fondness of other trophies. Our League Cup win of 2012 barely registers in the memory.

Nonetheless, Klopp – rightly – says he’s keen to do well.

“We are in this cup competition to win it,” he said.

“It’s not that every day we all say: ‘we want to win the League Cup’ but it’s a very important tournament. We had some great games in it last season and it was exciting to be a part of.

“We want to do that again. The final was a great experience.” (Echo)

We got the the final last season before being cruelly beaten on penalties by Man City, and the season before we went out to Chelsea in the semis after extra time.
