Luis Garcia says he thinks Steven Gerrard is the best player he ever played alongside.
It’s heady praise when you consider who else Garcia played alongside during his illustrious career – and the fact he is a Barcelona local lad.
The Spaniard was on Barca’s books from 1997 to 2004, but he only saw action in the 2003/04 season after firstly spending time with the B team and then have loan spells as Valladolid, Tenerife, and Toledo while he developed as a kid.
But in the 03/04 campaign he made 25 appearances for the Catalan club just as Barcelona were exiting their doldrums of the late-90s / early-2000s and emerging into the powerhouse club we see today.
Ronaldinho, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Edgar Davids, Patrick Kluivert, and Luis Enrique were all part of that vintage, but Garcia puts our Stevie ahead of all of them.
“It has to be Gerrard, because as a player he had it all. He was a leader, scored goals, gave assists – everything!” he said.
