Jurgen Klopp issues warning about out-of-favour Man Utd star

Jurgen Klopp has issued a warning over Wayne Rooney.

The Man Utd striker has fallen down the pecking order for both club and country this season. He has managed just one goal in seven Premier League appearances as Jose Mourinho uses him as a central midfielder. He was also left on the bench by Gareth Southgate for England’s dour 0-0 draw with Slovenia in mid-week.

“I know a lot of what everyone thinks at the moment about Wayne Rooney and I cannot think the same things, even as a manager of Liverpool,” said Klopp (Echo).

“It’s not allowed that I like players from Manchester United but he is 30 years old and he has had a long, more than decent career in the Premier League.

“From my side he is a world class player and world class players are always a threat.”

But whatever you think of Rooney, he is still a massive threat and Klopp is right to issue a warning. He is only three goals away from eclipsing Bobby Charlton as United’s record scorer; it would be extremely remiss of our players and our fans to dismiss him as “past it”.

Remember — you should never provoke a wounded beast!!
