Major selection boost for Klopp ahead of Liverpool v Watford

Posted by

Jurgen Klopp is expected to have his first-choice defence available to him once again, with James Milner healthy again having been struck down a virus.

James Pearce writes that while the Englishman was desperate to play, the medical team advised him not to travel, meaning Alberto Moreno played at left-back.

Now though, Milner is all but recovered, meaning bar any further complications, he’ll be fine for Sunday’s tie with seventh placed Watford – a trickier fixture than it perhaps seems on the surface.

The Hornets have been mightily impressive under Walter Mazzarri, who’ll bring an in-form, compact side north at the weekend.

Milner will line up alongside Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Nathaniel Clyne at the back, with Loris Karius between the sticks. This has emerged as Klopp’s starting defence, with the likes of Simon Mignolet, Moreno and Ragnar Klavan warming the bench.

Liverpool have only kept one clean-sheet all season in the Premier League and it’s about time we start adding to that tally. One weekend our scintillating forwards will be quiet and we’ll need to nick a win instead of storm to one.
