Niall Quinn’s comments on Liverpool are… ridiculous

We’re just not having this, at all.

Former Premier League forward Niall Quinn has bizarrely claimed that Jurgen Klopp will go in for a top new centre-forward in January.

This is what he wrote in his Sky Sports column about us:

“When Transfer Deadline Day passed without Jurgen Klopp buying a shiny new striker I wondered if he had feet of clay after all. With 30 goals from 11 Premier League games and a top of the table seat this morning, Klopp has won that argument.

“His high-energy game is high attrition too, in terms of injuries and fatigue, so I still think he might splurge for a top forward in January. In the meanwhile, if Sadio Mane can escape the inconsistency he suffered from at Southampton he could prove to be the most inspired buy of the season.”

Where do we begin…?

Liverpool already have two top strikers who can’t get Klopp’s side centrally in Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi. Both reached double-figures for goals last term and would walk into virtually every team in the country.

Roberto Firmino is so impressive in his hybrid striker role, fans completely understand why the natural centre-forwards are on the bench. We’ve outscored every team in the country and played the best football as well – without Sturridge and Origi in the side.

So why on earth would Klopp want to purchase another ‘top forward’ to take up a spot on the bench, because there’s no way anyone is coming in to break up the triumvirate of Coutinho, Mane and Firmino.

Mane is going to the AFCON, so if there was a position which needs attention it’s right-wing. Still, Sturridge can play here, as can Adam Lallana and Gini Wijnaldum – so we’re not expecting or even hoping for proper January business.

Quinn’s had a stinker!
