Klopp tells Liverpool fans the players he wants to buy in January

There’ll be plenty of fans, having seen Liverpool concede six goals in our past two games, who will be desperate for Jurgen Klopp to sign defensive recruits in January.

Those supporters will be disappointed if quotes in today’s press-conference are anything to go by.

Klopp has claimed with the January transfer coming up that he may well enter the market, but for offensive players – not defensive ones.

“The winter transfer market is the most difficult. We are always looking,” he told the Echo.

“If you watch our bench, very experienced in defence & not offence. If the situation stays like this it is clear we have open eyes.”

In this respect, Klopp has a point. Yesterday, our bench consisted of Mignolet, Klavan, Moreno, Lucas, Alexander-Arnold, Woodburn and Ejaria. The only offensive player there is Woodburn, a player who only recently turned 17…

That being said, we’ve still scored five goals in our past two games, with Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge still to return from injury – not to mention Danny Ings.

It’s for this reason we perhaps don’t agree so strongly with Klopp’s analysis of the squad, but we trust our manager’s judgement and back him to make the right decision.

In terms of defence, we’re actually very excited to see Joe Gomez fully fit, and hope he could perhaps enter the backline alongside Joel Matip at some point.

Up top, Quincy Promes (via Echo) and Sardar Azmoun (via Guardian) are confirmed targets.
