Sakho’s nasty injury is huge blow to LFC’s chances of £50m Virgil van Dijk

This really could scupper Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.

Last night, as Crystal Palace lost to Spurs, Mamadou Sakho injured his knee and was stretchered off the field.

According to his manager Sam Allardyce, it’s a nasty one.

“It looks like ligament trouble for Mama,” Allardyce said. “We certainly hope it’s not the cruciate but it could be the medial or the lateral.

“It certainly looks like a hyper-extension of the knee and we wait and see what the scan shows.”

Sakho will definitely miss the remainder of the season for Palace now, having sat on their bench and celebrated with Christian Benteke after the Belgian scored against us on Sunday…

But more worryingly for us, he may now be untransferable this summer.

We’ve publicly put a £30m price-tag on his head and it looked like there’d be plenty of suitors following his superb form for the Eagles, but if he’s out for the entire summer with a cruciate injury, nobody is going to pay that money.

We were planning on offloading the Frenchman and using the fee to supplement our £50m Virgil van Dijk bid, with the Echo confirming that we’re happy to break our transfer record for Southampton’s Dutchman.

However, if Sakho has to stay at Anfield, we may not have the funds to pay such an outrageous fee for a centre-back – which would be devastating for Jurgen Klopp.
