Fantastic update means Van Dijk to LFC is back on & all parties happy

Mamadou Sakho hasn’t ruptured his cruciate ligaments, so will not be absent for the nine-odd months everyone was fearing yesterday…

The Frenchman was stretchered off during Crystal Palace’s defeat to Spurs and there were genuine fears he could have a very bad injury which would keep him out for the duration of the summer and therefore scupper our chances of selling him for £30m-odd come the end of the season.

However, Paul Joyce of the Times has claimed Sakho’s only bruised and strained his ligaments and could in fact play again this season.

In purely selfish terms, this is good for Liverpool (although we’re obviously happy for Mama too) as it enhances of chances of signing Virgil Van Dijk.

The Dutchman will command a £50m fee, which we’re reportedly happy to pay say the Echo, providing we can pick up at least £30m for Sakho – who has absolutely no future under Jurgen Klopp.

Hopefully, Sakho can get fit, finish the season for Palace and join his chosen team in the summer for a hefty sum.

Providing we qualify for the Champions League, Van Dijk will be acquirable, even at a record breaking sum.
