Liverpool could buy 27-year-old that fans previously lamented

There was a time when Brendan Rodgers was in charge of Liverpool and he beelined for Ryan Bertrand – then at Chelsea.

You can read about it from 2014, here in the Independent. Fans were furious though and instead, the transfer committee bought Rodgers Alberto Moreno – the Spaniard who’s probably set for an exit this summer.

But if it was a mistake, it’s one the club could eventually rectify at the end of this season…

Liverpool and, interestingly, Chelsea, are eyeing up Bertrand as a summer target, reports the Mirror.

They claim that the 27-year-old has told team-mates he wants to leave St. Mary’s and both his former club and ourselves are potential destinations.

Liverpool undeniably need a left-back, but are targeting Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon as a priority according to all respected reports – such as here in the Echo.

Bertrand would be an interesting buy and would provide immediate competition to James Milner at left-back.

But we’re already trying to capture Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk and having pillaged their players over the past few years, we can’t see the Saints allowing us two more of their best this summer, with Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane already LFC starters.
