Liverpool transfers: Excellent Lacazette news partly helps Van Dijk disappointment

Liverpool fans hoping the club signs a top notch centre-forward this summer will be delighted by reports that we’re meeting Alexandre Lacazette’s advisors next week.

The Express claims that following Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban being upheld, Liverpool have moved to the front of the queue for the Lyon hitman, who plundered 37 goals in all competitions this season just gone.

We’ll discuss whether personal terms can be agreed, with the report suggesting Lyon want around £50m for the striker’s services.

This news breaks at the same time the Mirror is claiming that Manchester City have won the race for Virgil Van Dijk, agreeing to pay £60m for his services and pay him £200k/week.

This, in truth, is mightily disappointing – as our need for the Dutchman is probably greater than our need for Lacazette.

Now, we’ll have to turn our central defensive attentions elsewhere, with Jurgen Klopp still desperate to enforce our backline.

It’s looking likely that Mohamed Salah will sign, after he agreed a £90k/week wage yesterday – but Liverpool now need to settle on a fee with Roma.

Who we’ll go for at centre-back now remains to be seen.
