At the end of last week, we were told that Manchester City had won the race for Virgil van Dijk, and began to begrudgingly accept it considering the £60m transfer fee and £200k/week wages reported…
Then, this story was rubbished by trusted sources, such as the Times, who instead suggested that Liverpool were still very much in the race and that Jurgen Klopp is quietly confident he’ll land his man.
Now, journalist Alex Rea, formerly of the Echo, has claimed the defender described Liverpool to him as a ‘beautiful club’ having spoken to countryman Gini Wijnaldum and Klopp himself…
Spoke to Van Dijk at a Sony event ahead of CL final. Described #LFC as a “beautiful club” & said he’s talked to Wijnaldum about Klopp etc

Does this mean a deal is done? Of course not, but it certainly gives us hope that Van Dijk sees us a realistic possibility, when Chelsea and City are also keen.
The centre-back is going to cost an absurd sum, but one that might be necessary considering the defensive blunders which ruined our title pursuit in 2016/17.
Let’s see what happens!
