What Southampton require Van Dijk to do next…

Liverpool’s chances of confirming a deal for Virgil Van Dijk will be significantly increased if the player himself kicks up a fuss and possibly hands in a transfer request.

Until then, Southampton have no reason to sell, claims their mouthpiece the Daily Echo.

Van Dijk has a good relationship with Southampton’s fans and would prefer to depart on amiable terms, unlike Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana before him.

Southampton have put a new, ridiculous price-tag on Van Dijk’s head

But sadly, the Saints are giving him no choice but to throw his toys out of the pram, which will paint him as ‘The Bad Guy’ – exactly what Southampton want.

Van Dijk has already agreed to sign for Liverpool, but no fee has been decided upon and the Saints are hoping for £75m – a truly absurd figure for a 15-cap defender with barely any Champions League experience.

The 25-year-old will significantly help our backline, which struggled for consistency in 2016/17. For now though, it’s a waiting game. Hopefully Van Dijk can hurry his own club up a bit.
