Jurgen Klopp will decide based on Joe Gomez’s pre-season performances whether or not he’ll keep the youngster in his first-team squad or send him on loan for the campaign.
The Echo understand that a number of Premier League clubs are interested in borrowing our 20-year-old for the season, but Klopp will give Gomez a chance to prove himself during the summer friendlies first.
If he impresses, Gomez will be allowed to stay and fight for a first-team spot, despite the fact we’re expected to bring in a big-name, big-money defender at some point.

Klopp’s £100m spree ‘definitely’ includes 24-year-old [Independent]
Gomez joined Liverpool back in 2015 and was so exceptional during that pre-season that Brendan Rodgers made him our starting left-back. Sadly, a terrible injury ruled him out for over a year, and under Klopp – he’s not been given a single Premier League start.
For us, a loan spell at a mid-table to lower-table club would be beneficial for the Englishman, providing he’s getting games. There’s a feeling his development has stagnated due to only being played in the Under-23s – and if we do eventually buy a ‘Virgil van Dijk’, his first-team opportunities look severely limited.
