Jurgen Klopp already has a replacement for Philippe Coutinho in mind amid growing speculation linking the Brazilian to Barcelona.
The Spanish side are expected to follow up their initial offer of £72million, which the Reds rejected, by returning with a second bid of around £90million.
A step up in their pursuit of Coutinho has inevitably introduced players potentially capable of filling the void, were the 25-year-old to leave.
Klopp will turn a focus towards Borussia Dortmund’s teenage star Christian Pulisic if he loses his No.10 this summer, according to the Mirror.
Were this to be the case, it won’t be the first time the German has targeted the 18-year-old having also been a notable admirer during the January transfer window.
The USA international could once again be on the radar given reports suggesting Coutinho will ask Klopp to let him move to the Nou Camp.
Though the Reds boss will have the opportunity to talk his player around, the final decision is likely to come down to the club’s Fenway Sports Group owners and sporting director Michael Edwards.
As exciting as Pulisic’s potential is, he is no Coutinho and Liverpool cannot afford to lose their main man ahead of a season in which the team will be expected to not only challenge for the Premier League title but also make a statement on the European stage.
