Chelsea fan admits losing ‘Brazilian Ronaldo’ Solanke is devastating

A Chelsea fan has admitted what many of them cannot – that Liverpool have done brilliantly to secure Dom Solanke on what’s set to be a minimal tribunal fee.

The Blues never gave the teenager the chances he deserved at Stamford Bridge – and the prospect of more regular first-team football at Anfield convinced Solanke to leave Chelsea upon the end of his contract this summer and sign terms with Liverpool.

From this point onwards, he’s been in exceptional form, winning the Golden Boot at the Under-20 World Cup for England and shining during Liverpool’s pre-season.

He’s scored three goals, registered two assists, and arguably climbed above Divock Origi in the pecking order already…

A Chelsea fan has taken the time to ask Liverpool fans on Reddit about the youngster’s progress, suggesting that while he’ll hate to see Solanke succeed in red, it’s a distinct possibility – having tracked his progress closely ever since the days he was tearing up youth football.

Here’s what he wrote:

Greetings.

I’m from the Chelsea sub, come to ask what everyone thinks of Solanke. I’ve been following the guy since he was playing for the U17s, him and Tammy Abraham always had this natural talent to sniff goals out of nowhere. Solanke was special though: poacher’s instinct coupled with amazing technical abilities.

I would say that Dom was definitely better than Abraham when I was watching them. On the ball, he was miles ahead. Abraham was perhaps the better athlete, but Solanke trumped him in every other department.

If I were to liken his strengths to those of a well-known player, I would categorise him as a Brazilian Ronaldo in terms of style: a quick, lethal and skilful striker.

It seem’s like he’s had a great pre-season. Does he have any chance of starting in the league? If not this opening weekend, then maybe in the foreseeable future? As a Chelsea fan, I would hate for him to succeed with Liverpool, but I’ve always had a soft spot for him. I think he’ll go on to do great things.

I think our biggest mistake was letting him run out his contract rather then renewing his contract and selling him with a buy-out clause. Will very likely bite us in the ass in the near future.
