Naby Keita made the headlines for the wrong reasons on Saturday as he was sent off for a familiar high-boot challenge.
The RB Leipzig midfielder was dismissed during his side’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach after catching Christoph Kramer’s face whilst attempting to beat his opponent to the ball.
It was a challenge reminiscent of the one that saw Sadio Mane receive a red card for his foul on goalkeeper Ederson during last week’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Keita’s offence came after he had produced a brilliantly incisive assist for Jean-Kévin Augustin, who slotted home to put Leipzig 2-1 up.
His role in the goal alone served as an untimely reminder of how long Liverpool will have to wait for the Guinean, who will officially join the club in July 2018.
It was his sending off that stole the spotlight though, with high-foot challenges emerging as a main topic of conversation following the incident at the Etihad Stadium.
