Exclusive: Klopp tells Ox to ignore the idiots

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came into Liverpool’s Legends lounge following the Maribor win on Wednesday evening, and EOTK was lucky enough to hear the Englishman analyse our 3-0 victory.

Following games, a ‘Man of the Match’ is elected to go and speak with corporate clients, of which we were lucky enough to be invited.

(Watching football in a suit is a weird, uncomfortable experience by the way – wouldn’t recommend it.)

Really, sponsors just select a player who’s in good spirits and can be bothered, but we were happy to get the chance to speak with Ox – who had just completed his first 90 minutes at Anfield.

A rather boozy guy next to us complained that Liverpool didn’t win 10-0, but the 24-year-old dealt with him accordingly!

“Klopp told us to ignore idiots like you before the game!” he said.

“We always knew it was going to be a hard game. Obviously they couldn’t play the way they did last time because we tore them apart. After losing 7-0, you’re going to sit deep.

“The boss told us to take more risks at half-time and make more runs off the ball. After the first goal, we cruised it to be fair.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain did well, but we’re not sure he’ll start at the weekend for the trip to West Ham.

Instead, Daniel Sturridge is likely to come in, meaning Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah will flank him either side.

Still, it’s nice to see Ox showing signs of settling in to Klopp’s plans.

Hopefully, he can impress from the bench, as with Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Coutinho returning after the international break, his first-team hopes will diminish.
